What is zinc?

Zinc is a mineral used by your immune system to help fight infections. It has been shown to help clear warts with daily use for at least 4-8 weeks. It comes in both zinc gluconate and zinc sulfate, and both have been studied in clinical trials.

Is Zinc Safe?

Zinc is considered nontoxic. It is not contraindicated in immunosuppressed patients. Do not take if you have liver disease.

Does zinc interact with other medications?

Zinc may decrease the effects of doxycycline, minocycline, or ciprofloxacin (antibiotics), or oral medicines for osteoporosis (like alendronate), or warfarin when taken together with these medications. It is best to space these medications out from when you take zinc.

Steps for using Zinc to treat warts:

  • Buy over-the-counter zinc from a reputable vitamin/supplement company (also comes in chewables) and take as directed on the bottle until the warts clear up.

  • Zinc can be combined with other wart treatments.

  • You can restart the zinc if warts reappear.
